Apple TV?

Category: accessible Devices

Post 1 by Smiling Sunshine (I've now got the bronze prolific poster award! now going for the silver award!) on Wednesday, 07-Mar-2012 10:48:30

So, I'm thinking about getting Apple TV. I've seen posts on here that it's pretty cool.
Do tell.
Here are a few questions I have.
1. Is Voice Over built in?
2. Does the device have a screen like the Iphone or would I use my Iphone to operate it?
From what I understand, it pretty much just allows one to watch youtube, Netflics, Amazon, etc on the television. Is that correct?
I'm sure I'll have more questions but for now, that's a start.
Thanks!

Yes, it has Voiceover. It doesn't have a screen. You connect it to your TV so the TV is the screen. It comes with a remote control that you use to navigate menus and such. It connects to a wi-fi network to get online content like netflix, etc. You can also sync it with iTunes. There is an app where you can control the appleTV with an iPhone but I've never seen the need for it because it's already so easy to use with the remote and built in VoiceOver.

it can also pull shows and stuff directly from your computer's hard drive, so say you have movies on your computer you want to see it can access those easily from my understanding.

Oh cool.
So the remote already works with Voice Over which is built in. Score!
Thanks for the info, yall.

You all of this is true.
i was thinking of getting the next one but it is pointless cause there is a lot of visual thing that IS really do not care for at this time.

It's a device that connects to your TV set and allows streaming of various types of content from netflix, your hard drive and more. it has voiceover built in and is fully accessible. it is also refered to as a set set top box.

apple tv is a set top box, that plugs in to your tv and runs to your internet connect over wifi. with it, you can downlaod tv shows and moves right to your tv to watch form iTunes, watch netflix, podcasts, it has different things for sports, you can use it over airplay, also, the interface is easy to navigate, and yes, voice over is there, you just have to enable it. Personally, if you want to go the rout of the set top box, apple tv is going to be your best bet, I feel anyway. and I agree with littlefoot, there is really no need for the newer one, unless you care about the new emprovements to hd video.

Anybody know if it works with Amazon.com's online instant video rentals? If so, I'm sold! Well, I was sold already but amazon capability would make it even more worthwhile.

I wonder if it would work with digital cable and stuff like that to make the cable stuff more accessible?

Post 11 by Smiling Sunshine (I've now got the bronze prolific poster award! now going for the silver award!) on Sunday, 13-May-2012 17:02:59

I've been told that it would not. That would be cool though.

no, its not linked with amazon, and yeah, it would be nice if you could connect it with your cable or satelite connection.

Do you have to have a wide screen or HDTV to use it? I want one, but my TV is lame and about 10 years old.

do you have to stream videos from your computer via itunes, or can the box itself download the content?
If i want to stream something from my computer's itunes, do i have to have my laptop on the entire time I'm watching the movie?

I hate to double post, but, is the netflix app on it fairly accessible?

I recently went out of town to visit with a friend, and they have Apple TV. Yes, the Netflix app is accessible. I had never seen the Apple TV before, and I did not have any trouble using it or the Netflix app.

I've been thinking about getting one, but I'm not sure. I still want to figure out how easy it would be to stream downloaded movies to the tv.

How do you enable the VoiceOver if you get one? Probably fresh out of the box it starts it, maybe, but otherwise, how would you turn that on?

It's probably not going to work with an older tv. The Tv needs to have an HDMI port and a lot of the older ones don't. But, if your tv does have one of those, then you may be in luck.
